By Alicia Ball, Intern
If you’re reading this, then there is a possibility that you are looking for an internship in strategic communications. If that’s the case, you can’t find a better place that SiarzaSD. I should know: I’ve interned here twice.
I started interning here during the fall semester in 2017. At the time, I had just switched majors and didn’t know what I wanted to do for a career. All I knew was that I wanted to work in a fast-paced environment with a group of like-minded people. Here, I found that.
I can’t overstate how great everyone here has been with helping me find my footing. Once I got over my initial nerves, I always knew that I could go to them with any questions that I had. Through this experience, I learned a lot about everything: from graphic design to social media content creation. With everyone’s encouragement, I grew much more confident in my work.
From the internship, I learned time management skills that helped me in my classes. I often had a busy workload, but it left me satisfied at the end of the day. There were a few times when I felt like I’d been thrown into a pool and asked to swim. But with the help of everyone there, I always managed to bob to the surface. Before I knew it, the semester of my first internship was ending.
I ended up spending the next semester focusing on school, knocking out a lot of my hardest classes in the process. I always knew that I wanted to come back. In the fall of 2018, I reapplied, and I was lucky enough to get hired for a paid internship here.
Despite my excitement, I will admit that it was a bit hard coming back. It took a few weeks to regain the confidence that had taken months to earn. However, once I fell back into the swing of things, I was able to deepen the knowledge I gained from the first time around.
Why did I come back for the internship? It was a great opportunity. I’m gaining real-world experience and creating connections. I’ve also had the invaluable ability to ask and learn about many different topics.
If you’re not the type to shy away from hard work, an internship at SiarzaSD could be the right opportunity for you as well.
I’m going to be real with you right now.
This internship isn’t a walk in the park.
But, if you want to make it out there, tough internships are good internships.. This job requires late nights. It requires hard work. It requires ideas that flash through your mind so fast that your your fingers barely keep up while you bring creative ideas into the world.
It’s not easy. But nothing that is worth it, like this internship, ever is.
