Navy Assets Support Local Nonprofits During Navy Week
SANTA FE, NM – The U.S. Navy is sending members from the USS Santa Fe (SSN 763), USS Constitution, USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN 69), USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76), Naval Surface Warfare Center Detachment White Sands, Navy Band Southwest, Naval Meteorology and Oceanography Command, Navy Operational Support Center Albuquerque, Navy Talent Acquisition Group Phoenix, Naval History and Heritage Command, United States Naval Academy and Naval Office of Small Business Programs to participate in events for Santa Fe Navy Week in Santa Fe from Nov. 8-14.
During Santa Fe Navy Week, these assets will participate in volunteer activities and engagements at various locations in Santa Fe, including:
Habitat for Humanity Build and ReStore
Multiple assets will be volunteering at Habitat for Humanity in Santa Fe to assist with the construction of a new home and assist the staff at the ReStore. Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit organization that provides or improves housing for people around the globe. Habitat ReStores are independently owned stores that sell reused household items and building materials. They are operated by Habitat for Humanity.
Kitchen Angels
Multiple assets will assist in the kitchen and prepare holiday gift baskets. Kitchen Angels provides healthy meals to Santa Fe residents facing life-challenging conditions.
Girl Scouts of New Mexico Trails
Navy Band Southwest will visit the Girl Scouts of New Mexico Trails for a concert and music lesson. Girl Scouts will earn music badges.
Boys and Girls Club
Multiple assets will give presentations and engage with the children of Boys and Girls Club of Santa Fe. The organization provides programs and enrichment opportunities to youth in Santa Fe.
Women Veterans of New Mexico
Female sailors will participate in a luncheon with the Women Veterans of New Mexico, a nonprofit organization that supports women warriors from all military branches by informing them of the benefits they have earned and providing a place of comradery.
Girls, Inc. of Santa Fe
Female sailors will engage with the girls during their snack and break times to answer Navy and career questions. Girls, Inc. of Santa Fe provides programs that focus on “healthy living (Strong); academic enrichment and support (Smart); and life skills and independence (Bold).”
