Tax season was extended this year, giving people more time to reconcile and file. More businesses and individuals will be relying on the true accounting professionals this year. It’s a good year to boost up marketing for new clients and remind people of the big changes to this year’s tax requirements. Here are 3 tips for CPAs to become marketers.

Get a Google Listing

A Google listing is a CPA’s best friend. It’s the digital age; finding an accountant through the yellow pages is super old school. Customers not only rely on Google to find a reputable accountant: they expect it. If it has been awhile since you Googled your firm, test it out and have your friends do the same. Not only should your listing be on the first page, it should be above the fold (or visible to searchers without the need to scroll down). Make sure your contact information, address and hours are accurate. If potential customers have a bad experience trying to get a hold of you, they will be much more likely to move on to the next firm.

Ask for Reviews

Before selecting products and services, the majority of people hunt for customer reviews. Asking for reviews is asking for more business. However, as a business owner, asking for reviews from your customers can be nerve wracking. You don’t want to be too pushy, but you also don’t want to miss an opportunity for customer feedback. If you are not comfortable popping the question face-to-face (or more likely on Zoom these days) or over the phone, link it on your website, social platforms or printed materials. If you receive less than satisfactory comments or downright complaints, develop a method for quick responses to resolve the problem. Not only do customers want to see positive reviews – they want to see how you handle issues.

Revamp your About Us and Services Web Page

A strong About Us page on your website will improve your search engine optimization. It is not surprising that the About Us page is the busiest, most often visited page for service-based businesses. Clients want to know your back story, your personality and your team. They want to feel a connection to you before they trust you with their finances. Keep it professional while giving it a personal touch.

Make sure your Services page highlights all of your products and services. What makes you stand out against your competitors? Break up excessive amounts of text with upbeat infographics, photos or videos if you have them. This is your opportunity to showcase your brand. Make it count!
